Bob Loblaw has no Enthusiasm, No Motivation. Say it out loud! Bob Loblaw.

Ohio State University’s marching band has a famous halftime show. Trombones chasing flutes all over the damn field.  Those kids have a great time.

Bob Loblaw didn’t make the band.

Every Marine you meet, no matter how long they’ve been out, are proud?  Semper Fi. Always loyal.

Bob Loblaw was not a Marine.

Don’t curb your enthusiasm.

Positive, Productive, and Fresh works but Enthusiasm is the catalyst, the steroid of PPFE.

My mom used to perform the Messiah with the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center with the Paul Hill Chorale.  She wanted to be perfect, to fit in!  She practiced so hard.

I’ve been in community theater productions where everyone was proud. Of the costumes, the set, the characters- everything.  No one was ever late.  Anyone would do anything.

There were no Bob Loblaws in my mom’s chorale or in the community theater.

I was in Melbourne last week- shameless reference to the world-wide appeal of my business!– speaking to a group at the Royal Arcade.  Retail.

I was talking about the Swiss and how they, as a country, symbolize premium quality.

Bob Loblaw doesn’t care about zero defects.

My son Taylor grinds me if he sees mistakes I let go.  He preaches zero defects.  He’s 26.  I think his generation understands high quality performance a lot more than they get credit for.  Our millennials are the victims of bias confirmation way too much.  I could rattle off, besides Taylor, a never-ending list that veers from stereotype.  Jackie Collens, Jackie Carter, Ruthie Coleman, Chas Summers…..

Bob Loblaw is not a great teammate.  Teams have not just good coaches, but good teammates.  Good teammates are Positive, Productive, Fresh and Enthusiastic.  PPFE.

I’ll close today’s blog by pointing out that good teammates are incredibly motivating to each other.  And they motivate the boss, or at least I HOPE they do.  How soul destroying it would be to have a boss who does not represent.
